It is important to be involved in your child鈥檚 education and to know how your child is progressing with their learning.
Key information
You will be updated on your child鈥檚 learning progress through a range of communications across the year. This will include:
- school reports at mid-year and end of year
- sharing evidence of learning
- opportunities for parent-teacher conversations in Terms 2 and 3.
Parent-teacher conversations are an opportunity for you to talk about your child鈥檚 learning progress with their teacher. You can also discuss what things they can do to keep improving and their next steps in learning.
Please remember that you can talk to your child鈥檚 teacher at any stage if you have any concerns about their learning progress.
From 2022, the department introduced a new 9-point visual scale for Prep to Year 10 students. This goes with a worded description to help you understand how your child is going against the expected standard for their year level.
- The 9-point scale shows more specifically where your child is at with their learning. This change does not apply to students in Years 11 and 12.
- School reports show how well your child is achieving in the Australian Curriculum for their year group.
- School reports are based on a wide range of evidence the teacher collects across the year.
- Where both parents require a copy of their child鈥檚 school report, please contact your principal.
- If your child is in Prep information will be shared through a conversation at mid-year, with a report using worded descriptors provided at the end of the year.
- If your child is in Years 1 鈥�10 you will see both the 9-point scale and the worded descriptor.
- Reports for Years 11鈥�12 students cover progress in subjects against鈥疶asmanian Assessment, Standards and Certification course criteria.鈥�
- Reports for Years 11鈥�12 are also issued where students are undertaking a Vocational Education and Training programme and these reports indicate how students are meeting units of competence.

Evidence of learning
Evidence of learning is a work sample (or observation) and the teacher鈥檚 feedback given to your child that accompanies it.
Evidence of your child鈥檚 learning may be shared with you at any time during the year:
- in person during a conversation
- through an online platform (for example, Canvas)
- via an email
- printed and sent home.

Parent-teacher conversations are an opportunity for you to talk about your child鈥檚 learning progress with their teacher. You can also discuss what things they can do to keep improving.
You will have the opportunity to meet with your child鈥檚 teacher/s in Terms 2 and 3 of the school year.
