Getting your driver鈥檚 licence is a big step in life but for some young people, it can feel out of reach. That鈥檚 where Driving for Jobs comes in.
Driving for Jobs is a Tasmanian Government program that supports young people aged 16 to 19 in learning to drive safely and confidently. It鈥檚 especially helpful for students who face difficulties completing their required hours. By gaining driving skills, they can unlock new employment opportunities and build greater independence.
Launceston College student Celina, is one of many young Tasmanian鈥檚 to find success through the program.
鈥淚鈥檝e seen people who were really scared of driving become confident,鈥� Celina said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 not scary unless you make the wrong decision, and this program helps you make the right ones.鈥�
Celina recently passed her P鈥檚 test on the first try. She says the program helped her feel ready, calm, and in control on the road.
鈥淓verything is explained to you so clearly, and you get to see everyday examples of how to stay safe,鈥� she said. 鈥淢y family has noticed how much better I drive now. I鈥檇 definitely recommend it to my friends.鈥�
The Driving for Jobs program offers more than just driving lessons. It helps build safer communities and brighter futures. Martin, a Project Officer from Launceston College, has seen first-hand how the program changes lives.
鈥淭he one-on-one support from instructors really helps each student,鈥� Martin said. 鈥淎nd the confidence they get from driving shows up in other areas too, like schoolwork and friendships.鈥�
For many students, getting their licence is key to getting a job. Employers often need drivers, and young people with a licence stand out from the crowd.
鈥淪tudents are so grateful to be part of this program. They know it gives them a better chance at work and life,鈥� said Martin.
The Driving for Jobs program is part of Tasmania鈥檚 Towards Zero road safety plan. It gives priority to disadvantaged students. It ensures those who need it most get the support they need to succeed.
