What does 鈥渄oing well in education鈥� really mean?
An Independent Review of Education in Tasmania found that when we clearly explain what success at school looks like, it helps everyone understand why education matters.
Often, when people talk about success at school, they focus on things like finishing Year 12, getting an ATAR and achieving the TCE. For some students, they are important goals. But for many young Tasmanians, these goals don鈥檛 tell the whole story.
That鈥檚 why Tasmania is developing a definition of educational success, to help our learners, system and broader community understand what doing well in education really means. By doing this, we want every young person to see themselves represented and reflect that success will look different for different learners, at different times.
Throughout May and June, we asked Tasmanians to help us shape the definition and the actions that will help put it into practice.
Consultation closed on 19 June and we heard from almost 2,500 Tasmanians about what success in education means and how we get there.
What happens next?
The input we receive through the engagement will directly inform development of a definition of success which speaks to all of us and an action plan to guide how our system sets learners up for success. Both of which will be available in the second half of 2026 and made available on this page
